Costume design for Don Juan

Kaiqi Zhang is a Chinese costume designer and visual artist based in Los Angeles, currently pursuing her MFA in Costume Design at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). She holds a BA from the University of the Arts London (UAL) and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.

With a strong foundation in both European and Asian costume traditions, Kaiqi specializes in story-driven, detail-oriented costume design for live performance and immersive environments. Her work combines historical research with innovative materials and fabrication techniques to bring characters to life in vivid, memorable ways.

In addition to her design work, Kaiqi has experience in installation art, sculpture, and projection, allowing her to collaborate fluidly across departments and contribute to the overall visual storytelling of a production. She is passionate about creating costumes that not only serve performance, but also deepen audience engagement through thoughtful visual world-building.
